Due to the government shutdown, data critical to generating the Houston Business-Cycle Index were unavailable at the time of writing. However, anecdotal evidence and other data, such as the Houston Purchasing Managers Index, point to steady or slightly decelerating economic growth. As shown in the chart, overall activity
in Houston has remained positive in 2013 despite recent contractions but has been slower than last year.
