Texas Still Adding Jobs in August 2011

According to the Texas A&M Real Estate Center's latest Monthly Review of the Texas Economy, Texas continues to outperform the national average in job creation. 

The state added 271,400 non-farm jobs from August 2010 to August 2011. This annual growth rate of 2.6% compared favorably with 1.0% percent for the United States. 


The state's private sector grew by 284,200 jobs. This represents a 3.3% increase compared with 1.6% for the U.S. private sector.

Texas' seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 8.5% in August 2011, up from 8.3% a year earlier. The national unemployment rate decreased from 9.5%, in August 2010, to 9.1% in August 2011.
